To find out if you’re overweight, you can calculate your BMI based on your height, weight, age, and gender. A BMI over 25 indicates overweight, and a BMI above 30 is categorized as obese. Keeping your BMI in the range of 19 to 25 can reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer.

Wegovy® and Mounjaro® are excluded for patients who are on diabetic medications such as sulphonylurea, or insulin. To find out more, speak to one of our expert Pharmacists in store.

Both Wegovy and Mounjaro have specific dosing regimens that change over time to optimise results and minimise side effects. Here’s a general overview of how dosages are typically managed:

Wegovy

Starting Dose: Patients typically start with a low dose (0.25 mg per week) to allow their body to adjust.

Dose Increases: The dose gradually increases over several weeks, moving to 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and eventually reaching a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg per week.

Maintenance Dose: Most patients continue with the 2.4 mg dose weekly, but healthcare providers may adjust it based on individual tolerance and weight loss results.

Mounjaro:

Starting Dose: Mounjaro also begins at a low dose (2.5 mg once weekly).

Dose Adjustments: Over several months, the dose can increase incrementally—typically to 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and up to 15 mg, which is generally considered the highest dose.

Maintenance Dose: Like Wegovy, the dose can be adjusted based on patient response, and some may stay at lower doses if effective.

These medications are often increased gradually to help you tolerate potential side effects better, but any changes should always be guided by Avicenna Pharmacists

Manage My Meds allows you to order your repeat prescription online directly to your nominated Avicenna pharmacy. We will process your order and send your prescription request straight to your GP.

Use the app to track the progress of your order. A notification will be sent when your prescription is ready to be collected.

Never forget to reorder your medication with the inbuilt reminder prompt. The app also helps you to remember when to take your medication via the handy medication reminder function.

If it’s been 4 days or less since you missed your injection, take it as soon as you remember. After that, continue with your regular schedule.

If it’s been more than 4 days, skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled day to take it.
